FCZ women before the 2nd CL appearance – “Arsenal will consider the game very important” – Sport

Malin Gut has played for FCZ and Arsenal. Now she looks ahead to the CL duel between the two clubs.

Arsenal is currently the measure of all things on the island. Not only the men lead their league, but also the women. The north London side have started the new season with an impeccable record of 4 wins in 4 games. And in the Champions League, defending champions Lyon were ruffled away 5-1.

An offensive of the extra class

“At this point in time, I would definitely count Arsenal as one of Europe’s top teams,” says Malin Gut, unsurprisingly. The 22-year-old played for the Gunners for two years before returning to Switzerland this summer. For them it is clear: “Arsenal is the clear favorite in the game.”

22-year-old Malin Gut came to FCZ in 2015, with whom she won three championships and cups. In 2019 she moved to GC, a year later to Arsenal on the island. In mid-May 2021, she tore her cruciate ligament. She completed most of her rehab in Switzerland and switched back to GC in January 2022. In August, she decided to take a one-year break from football. Good is a 14-time national player.

The Londoners would be characterized above all by the individual class. “They have some players with world-class format,” said Gut. Above all, the offensive around European champion and EM top scorer Beth Mead, the Dutch Vivianne Miedema and Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius belong to the elite of women’s football.

2 Swiss women right in the middle

Of course, the two Swiss national players Lia Wälti and Noelle Maritz are also in the middle of the star ensemble. “It will definitely be a special game for the two of them,” Gut is convinced. They know each other from the national team, and Maritz was also under contract with FCZ for several years.

The two at Arsenal not only play an extra role. “If they are on the pitch, then both have proven several times that they can play a major role and help the team,” says Gut.

So the FCZ will be challenged in London. For their part, the Zurich team is in 3rd place in the Women’s Super League after 6 rounds. In the Champions League, they did well in their first home game against Juventus, but were still beaten 2-0 after conceding late goals.

No mercy from Arsenal?

In London, too, the Zurich women will appear as clear outsiders. Even more so as the game will take place at the Emirates Stadium. However, Gut does not believe that Arsenal will take their foot off the gas against what is probably the weakest opponent in Hammer Group B and will not compete with the best players.

Arsenal have had to accept some disappointments in the “premier class” in recent years and have not achieved the results they had planned. It is therefore to be expected that “they will consider the game very important and will send a top team into the game”.
