Fear of going for a walk – The cruel trail of the dog murderer in Vienna

A dog poisoner has been up to mischief in the west of Vienna for two years: several four-legged friends have died, and the animals were saved in the most recent attacks.

The fear is with the dog owners. Already in spring 2020, eight dogs were killed by poisoned baits in the west of Vienna. The cruel series of attacks continued at irregular intervals throughout 2021. Now other toxic traps have appeared in Hietzing and Hernals (see graphic). Three four-legged friends swallowed the bait. Luckily all three survived. The finds in the Hörndlwald and in the Fichtnergasse caused great concern among animal lovers. Furthermore, bait was seized in Trazerberggasse and Lainzerstraße. The police are eagerly looking for the serial killer. So far without success. “Krone”-Tierecke helped with the treatment costs. Susanne Gisel fought for the dogs’ lives for days. A video (below) shows the reaction of an affected animal to the ingested neurotoxin and the terrible aftermath. In addition to the fear for the pet, the dog owners were also confronted with prohibitive treatment costs. The “Krone” – Tierecke – managed to remedy the situation by taking over the costs for the life-saving treatments. “Oona is my soul dog, it would have been terrible to lose her to the act of an animal killer. She bravely fought her way back to life. Thanks to Mrs. Dr. Gisel und die Krone,” says the dog owner. Attention, the following video could be difficult to bear, not only for animal lovers! The dog owners remain unsettled. Camilla G. (18) is concerned: “To lay out poison here is completely abnormal. It’s not just about the dogs, but also about the other animals that live here.” The poison is apparently slug pellets. However, a precise analysis is not possible in Austria, but only in Munich. The result can last up to two weeks. Are there any classic symptoms that indicate poisoning in dogs? The symptoms always depend on the type of poison. The signs of poisoning in the current cases in Vienna (see graphic) were severe cramps and fever. What immediate measures are there if poison intake is suspected? Keep Calm! If the animal has not yet swallowed the suspicious find, you should try to take it away from it by trading. This means: He gets something better (e.g. treats) in return and (at best) lets go of his prey. If the dog has swallowed the bait, give activated charcoal and consult a veterinarian as soon as possible. Every minute counts here! Your tips so that you don’t get that far in the first place? A suitable muzzle, for example. There are also good first aid courses and anti-stress courses for dogs and owners, which address the correct behavior in the event of poisoning.
