Fear of theft – box trouble in the stadium pool

Day visitors look through their fingers at boxes and cubicles in the stadium pool this season – we reported. But many bathers now fear for their valuables. The pandemic is to blame

The “Krone” article about the hassle of having fun in the stadium pool caused a stir. This year there are no boxes or cabins for bathers with a day ticket and therefore no longer the possibility to lock up valuables. The spacious bath has 902 cabins and 2561 boxes. The Viennese sports facilities say that these are all taken. Several times an hour, however, the loudspeakers announce that you should take care of your valuables. A total of 12,500 visitors fit into the stadium pool. So not an easy undertaking. At the “Krone” local inspection on Wednesday morning, there was almost no activity with the allegedly sold-out boxes. There are changing rooms, but these are not so easy to find. Most of the guests change their clothes directly on the meadow. Which makes some bathers feel bothered. The office of City Councilor for Sports Peter Hacker (SPÖ) states that the number of season ticket holders has increased significantly during the pandemic. If the number of boxes were to be increased, it would be at the expense of lying and movement areas. “Senior citizens feel discriminated against” But the waves are also rising in the pools. Regular guest Ronald B. complains: “For years there have always been two lanes in the stadium pool reserved for seniors. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case this year.” Bizarre answer: Sporty seniors felt they were being discriminated against as “slow swimmers”, which is why these lanes were not marked separately. There would be a second 50 meter swimming pool for that. So the swimming area has doubled. The ÖVP is also angry and now wants to put written questions to three city councillors.
