Fear the Walking Dead: How FTWD Season 8 circumvents the biggest problem of “The Walking Dead”

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD

“Fear the Walking Dead” season 8 takes a bold step that we would have liked to have seen in “The Walking Dead” season 11 as well. Warning, there are spoilers for episode 5.

  • “Fear the Walking Dead” kills an important character and shows more courage than the finale of “The Walking Dead”.
  • The death of SPOILER could now have many more consequences. We reveal which characters are in danger.

Episode 5 of Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 proves the spin-off doesn’t shy away from what Season 11 of The Walking Dead didn’t dare: important characters die. who afraid of spoilers If you haven’t seen the latest episode yet, stop reading now.

That won’t be the last death of the season

Morgan has to cope with a terrible loss in Episode 5. His partner and his daughter Mo’s adoptive mother, Grace, dies after being bitten by an undead. Grace has been an integral part of Morgan’s group since she was introduced in Season 5, and her death was arguably the most momentous since John Dorie died in Season 6.

The fact that Grace dies in episode 5 of the final season 5 shows that the TWD spin-off doesn’t shy away from killing big characters early in the season. In TWD season 11 there were hardly any significant deaths, Rosita is the only main character who met his end.

Of course, there was also the problem with TWD that numerous spin-offs for the most important main characters had already been announced. So viewers didn’t have to fear for the lives of Daryl, Negan, Maggie, Rick or Michonne in the final episodes. Carol’s death was also unlikely, since she would certainly get a guest appearance in one of the spin-offs.

That took a lot of tension out of the grand finale. At FTWD, the series creators are now taking a different approach and want to signal that none of your favorite characters are safe.

Who dies next?

Given that Morgan has the closest connection to the main series and is also an old friend of Rick Grimes, it’s unlikely that he will see his end in FTWD. His potential to also play a role in the new spin-off series is too great.

In the final fight against PADRE, however, characters like Daniel Salazar, Madison Clark, Victor Strand, June or even Dwight could lose their lives.

As sad as Grace’s death is, it makes the final season of FTWD all the better. It’s reminiscent of previous seasons of TWD, which didn’t shy away from killing popular characters unexpectedly. The passing of Abraham, Glenn, Noah, Beth, T-Dog, Lori and many others was part of the show’s appeal, showing that it could happen to anyone at any time.

The midseason finale of FTWD season 8 awaits you next week. The second half of the final season will probably be broadcast on AMC, AMC+ and in Germany on Amazon Prime Video at the end of the year.
