Every quarter, Google provides its Pixel phones with a major Android update. This update, called Feature Drop, adds new features. Now it is also known which functions will be included in the Pixel Feature Drop of the third quarter of 2023. We present them to you below. Unless otherwise noted, the features are available on Pixel phones starting with the Pixel 4a.

  • Security check: If you’re going for a run at dusk or after dark, just say, “Hey Google, start a safety check in 30 minutes.” If you don’t respond to the security check within the allotted time, your emergency contacts will be notified and your real-time location will be shared.
  • Macro focus for videos: You can now also use the macro focus of the Pixel 7 Pro in videos, so far it was limited to photos.
  • Take hands-free photos: Just raise your palm to start the self-timer. The function is available from the Pixel 6.
  • 3D wallpapers: Starting with the Pixel 6, you can now have two-dimensional photos transformed into 3D backgrounds. Your Pixel phone uses AI for this.
  • Smart home access from the lock screen: The smart home device control panel is now also available on the lock screen.

In addition, the Pixel 6a and Pixel 7a should automatically reduce the vibration intensity when they are placed on a hard surface such as a table. Furthermore, new AI-supported charging algorithms should extend the battery life of your pixel cell phone.

Pixel Watch is also getting new features

Google is also releasing a software update with new features for the Pixel Watch and Fitbit devices. The Pixel Watch can now measure your blood oxygen content (SpO2), and continuous heart rate measurement is also possible after the update.

Also new is the Spotify tile on the watch and that the Pixel Watch automatically pauses your training if you have to stop at a traffic light. This feature is available for running, walking, and cycling workouts. In addition, the Google Assistant is available in new languages ​​(Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Polish and Spanish) on the Pixel Watch.
