In view of the shortage of skilled workers, the federal government wants to make nursing studies more attractive. A new law therefore stipulates that students will receive remuneration in the future. Even those who have already started studying should benefit from it.

Nursing students will receive more money in the future. The Federal Council approved a law according to which students should in future receive training allowance for the entire duration of their nursing studies. Previously, nursing students – unlike trainees in the nursing sector – received no remuneration, even if their studies also included significant work in the practical nursing area.

The Bundestag had already passed the so-called Nursing Studies Strengthening Act in October. With the law, the federal government is pursuing the goal of encouraging more people to take up nursing studies and, in the long term, increasing the academic quota in nursing training.

As a transitional measure, those who have already started studying nursing should also receive training allowance for the remaining period of study.
