For once, the Federal Council will not meet in the Federal Palace on Wednesday.
He holds his session “extra muros” in Lucerne. At 12.30 p.m. he meets with the local population for an aperitif in the Verkehrshaus. This is how the state government wants to express its “great solidarity with the various regions of our country”.
Corona skeptics do not want to know anything about it. You would like to use the occasion to demonstrate against the certificate requirement. The security requirement should be correspondingly large. Comments on Telegram raise doubts as to whether all demonstrators want to remain peaceful. “Hope there are rotten eggs and tomatoes flying en masse,” writes one. “I’ll take stones with me!”, Another.
The resistance is too great
But the Federal Council is also encountering opposition outside of the skeptical scene with its plans for a vaccination offensive. Particularly controversial among the cantons is the idea of Health Minister Alain Berset (49) of 50-franc vouchers to be given to people who convince others of the vaccination. This would create false incentives.
Even before the Federal Council meeting, it is therefore clear: The spades bonus is off the table – this is confirmed by several sources. The Federal Council is backing down here. The resistance against it is too great.
Vaccination week is a done deal
The government is likely to stick to the other three pillars of its vaccination offensive. The national vaccination week, which is supposed to take place in early November, seems to be a done deal. The additional mobile vaccination teams and vaccination advisors are also given good chances. In principle, the cantonal governments also agree with the federal government that the vaccination quota in the state must be increased further.
The Federal Council could make adjustments to both the mobile vaccination teams and the vaccination advisors. In the consultation, for example, the cantons pointed out a lack of specialist staff. This deficiency cannot be remedied even with federal government money. And this, although the Federal Council is supposed to be flirting with the cantons in financing the mobile advice and vaccination centers even further.
Can Amherd still be changed?
The federal administration is therefore said to have examined in the past few days how vaccination teams could be provided for the cantons. From these even several calls had been made that the army should help. After all, medical recruits are already learning how to administer injections. So far, Defense Minister Viola Amherd (59) has shown little enthusiasm. It seems questionable that she can still be changed. (dba)
