Federal government: All of Spain classified as a corona risk area

The federal government has now also declared the Canary Islands and thus all of Spain to be a corona risk area.

Due to the increasing number of new infections in the Canaries, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has declared the whole of Spain to be a corona risk area, as announced on the RKI website. A correspondingly updated list of the corona risk areas was published there on Wednesday evening. The Canary Islands were considered the last region in Spain that had not yet been designated as a risk area by the federal government.

The classification as a risk area is based on a joint analysis and decision by the Federal Ministry of Health, the Foreign Office and the Ministry of the Interior. It is assumed that the Foreign Office will issue a travel warning for all of Spain. For those returning from vacation, being classified as a risk area means that they are obliged to test for the corona virus. The popular holiday islands of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Graciosa, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma belong to the Spanish archipelago of volcanic origin off the northwest coast of Africa, which is known for its black and white sandy beaches.
