Federal government: Mallorca is classified as a corona risk area

The federal government will classify Spain, including the popular travel destination Mallorca, as a risk area.

Almost all of Spain is classified by the federal government as a corona risk area. That comes from a report on the website of the "Tagesschau". The ARD capital studio has learned from government circles that the government will classify Spain – with the exception of the Canary Islands – due to the latest developments. Accordingly, the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca, a popular travel destination for German vacationers, is also affected.

Travel warning should follow

As the report goes on to say, a travel warning is to be issued later. The interior, foreign and health ministries would have made this decision together. On Thursday, the responsible authorities in Spain reported almost 3,000 new corona cases within 24 hours, according to the "Tagesschau". The "Bild" reports, citing government circles, that Spain is to be declared a risk area.

A few days earlier, a travel warning for parts of Spain had already been extended. The Foreign Office warns on its website (as of August 14) against "unnecessary tourist trips to the autonomous communities of Aragon, Basque Country, Catalonia, Madrid and Navarra".
