A winter storm will sweep across Switzerland on Sunday evening and Monday night. The federal government therefore warns of strong winds and heavy snowfall. He has declared danger level 3 out of 5, which means a significant danger.
In concrete terms, at this danger level, falling branches, the falling of individual trees and objects that are only lightly anchored, such as tents and scaffolding, must be expected. In addition, road and rail traffic may be affected.

According to Meteo Schweiz, the winds will increase continuously on the north side of the Alps over the course of Sunday. They reach gale force in the afternoon in north-western Switzerland and in the evening also in the lowlands of German-speaking Switzerland. The federal government expects wind peaks of 80 to 110 km/h in the lowlands, above 1000 meters the storm can also reach peaks of up to 130 km/h.
According to Meteo Schweiz, the westerly wind reached storm force over the Alpine peaks on Monday night with peak winds of 140 to 180 km/h above 1800 meters. Storm winds are expected to ease gradually on Monday afternoon.
The rain will start towards Sunday evening from the north-west. According to the forecasts, 30 to 50 cm of fresh snow is expected on Monday night from the eastern Bernese Oberland to the Uri and Glarner Alps to the north and central Grisons mountains above 1200 meters. In the other Alpine regions and below 1200 meters, 10 to 30 cm can be expected.
The snow line is 1,000 meters on Sunday evening and will drop to 400 to 700 meters by Monday morning. Towards Monday evening the snowfall in the Alps will gradually decrease.
