“Who has the damage …”, writes Chancellor Scholz at X and shows a photo that shows him jogging after his fall. You can see the SPD politician with an eye patch and visible abrasions on his face.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz showed a photo of himself on his X profile after his jogging accident, probably to prepare the public for his appearance. The picture shows the SPD politician with an eye patch covering part of his injured face. Underneath, however, abrasions can be seen around the eye, on the nose and on the chin.

Scholz was apparently aware that the picture would cause a stir. He captioned it, “Who has the damage… Can’t wait for the memes. Thanks for the well wishes, looks worse than it is!”

Scholz had to cancel a joint campaign appearance with Interior Minister and SPD top candidate Nancy Faeser in Hesse on Sunday because he fell while jogging and suffered bruises on his face. According to a government spokeswoman, the chancellor will attend public appointments again today. The first is the St. Michael annual reception of the German Bishops’ Conference in Berlin, to which several cabinet members are expected.

In addition to the reception of the German Bishops’ Conference, the summer party of the SPD newspaper “vorwärts” is also on the Chancellor’s agenda on Monday. It is expected at the International Motor Show in Munich on Tuesday. On Wednesday he speaks in the budget debate in the Bundestag.

Scholz is a passionate runner

The accident is said to have happened on Saturday on the Chancellor’s main route at his place of residence in Potsdam. A doctor examined the injuries and found no further damage, reported the “Bild” newspaper. Scholz stumbled, was unable to support himself in time and therefore fell on his face. He is always accompanied by bodyguards when jogging, who were able to help him quickly.

Scholz tries to make time for sport two to three times a week, as he writes on his website as a member of the Bundestag. He also likes to row when his busy schedule allows. He also goes hiking with his wife Britta Ernst on vacation and occasionally rides his bike. However, he is a late starter when it comes to sports. “When I was at school I hated sports, now I jog as often as I can.”

In the program “Brigitte live” Scholz said during the 2021 election campaign that his wife Britta Ernst got him running when he was about 40 years old. “She said I have to do something, it can’t go on like this.” He doesn’t listen to music while jogging and doesn’t carry any measuring devices for heart rate or speed with him. “I don’t really think much about any stuff either,” he said. But he feels “incredibly good” when running, he just enjoys it.
