34 years after the US comedy "Ferris Makes Blue" started, the cast of the cult film "met" for a reunion via webcam.
Once again the web show "Reunited Apart with Josh Gad" brought together the cast of a classic film. After "Ghostbusters", "The Lord of the Rings" or "Back to the Future", the latest episode was the teen comedy "Ferris macht blau" from 1986. With title hero Ferris alias Matthew Broderick (58), the video begins the lively webcam reunion, in which Alan Ruck (63) alias Ferris' best buddy Cameron Frye is also quickly switched on. They are visibly delighted to see each other again, and are startled to realize that it has been 15 years since they last saw each other in flesh and blood.
Shortly thereafter, Mia Sara (53, role name: Sloane Peterson) and "Dirty Dancing" star Jennifer Gray (60) are also at the start. The latter shone in the cult comedy as the big and nasty sister of the school tail, Jeanie Bueller. The Bueller reunion is completed by Cindy Pickett (73) and Lyman Ward (79), who act the parents of the quarreling kids. Some of the performers hadn't seen each other for 34 years, since the film was released.
Together with Ben Stein (75), who embodied what is perhaps the most boring economics teacher in cinema history, the actors and actresses exchange countless anecdotes about the film shoot in the almost 45-minute video. For example, that the young stars weren't allowed to get too close to the iconic (real) Ferrari. They were only allowed to drive one dummy: "It was a Ford with a plastic Ferrari glued over it," Broderick recalls with a laugh.
A tribute and a super fan
A man is sorely missed at the warm reunion. Director John Hughes (1950-2009) died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 2009 at the age of 59. "His films are about love. They are not malicious, angry or wicked, but lovable (…) and I rarely see anything like that," says Stein. "He treated young people with respect," added Ruck. This was also clear for Hughes' other world-famous teen film, "The Breakfast Club".
As a highlight, a prominent superfan of the film was brought in shortly before the memory of Hughes. Jake Gyllenhaal (39) turns out to be an absolute "Ferris makes blue" expert in the clip and can even recite the number plates of the main characters by heart. Even Mr. Ferris Bueller himself is amazed.
