Festival in Graz – Aufsteirern 2022: Successful start on Saturday

For two years, the corona pandemic slowed down the country’s largest folk culture festival, this year it returns in all its glory. On Saturday, thousands of visitors got into the mood for the city center of Graz on ten squares! It continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. – with beer tapping, the waltz world record attempt and lots of Styrian culture.

As a Aufsteirern fan, the glass is half full: After a completely rainy Friday, it was cool on Saturday, but luckily it was dry. As early as 10 a.m., the first couples in traditional costume streamed into the city center of Graz, where the traditional Oberlandler Kirtag took place in the already full Landhaushof (you can read all the background information about the Oberlandler in this story). “We’re extremely lucky with the weather, the inner courtyard is full and the atmosphere is really, really good,” says club director Klaus Weikhard.Thousands of visitors from all over the countryThe folk culture attracted many Styrians, but also other guests. “We don’t have that much tradition, so I think that’s very cool, including the clothes,” says Leo from Canada. He himself will get a pair of leather trousers. A few people from Zillertal have also come and hope: “If we get to know another pretty Styrian woman, all the better!” the Styrian cosiness and also one or the other political discussion.” The large audience should also benefit a few of his fellow campaigners on Sunday. There was singing, feasting and banging. At 12 o’clock it also started in almost ten other locations. The big stage on the main square was dedicated to wind, brass and ska music all day long. Schmiedgasse traditionally became a traditional costumes mile, and there was folk dancing in the courtyard, which was used for the first time. Roland Schütter: “It’s not that easy to snap to the beat, you need a month or two for that.” At Karmeliterplatz, too, the arc was drawn from folk music to modern sounds. Everywhere there was of course the finest regional cuisine: from Ennstaler Steierkas-Krapfen to baked porcini mushrooms, schnitzel in pumpkin seed breading as well as fine droplets and juices music, traditional costumes, singing, handicrafts and culinary delights await you on a single stage with 19 seats. At 11:30 a.m., a world record attempt will also take place on the Passamtswiese: more than 1,600 couples will waltz at the same time. Previous knowledge and prior registration are not necessary, just come by!To the “Krone” photo box or for children’s fishingThe “Krone” is also strongly represented as a partner of the Aufsteirern on Sunday with two stands. At the Iron Gate there are pretzels and fans for bonus card holders (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) – a photo box is waiting on the main square (also 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)! And in the castle courtyard, all children are invited to go fishing again: Children’s fishing: Whoever takes a fish out of the tank receives a gift.
