The price of graphics cards is only one element among others: large stocks and efficient logistics are not to be neglected.

While NVIDIA is partly stuck with large stocks of previous generation (Ampere) GPUs, many gamers want to see AMD unlock the slack with its Radeon RX 7900s. Things may be a bit more complicated than that.

The price in question

AMD has clearly sought to take advantage of the situation by announcing significantly lower MSRPs than NVIDIA for its new generation of graphics cards.

Thus, while the GeForce RTX 4080 was officially launched at 1,469 euros in its Founders Edition version (it is today at 1,399 euros), on November 4, the Radeon RX 7900XT and RX 7900XTX were announced at respectively $899 and $999. This price difference is all the more impressive since, according to AMD, the performances of these three cards are substantially equivalent. The RX 7900XT card would be a little off the hook, but not ridiculous.

20,000 “MBA” cards for the EMEA zone?

What would be ridiculous, on the other hand, would be not to live up to the hopes thus raised. Indeed, a first thorn in the side of AMD came from China, with manufacturers and resellers who speak instead of a price of 1,600 dollars for partner models.

Today, Igor’s Lab adds a layer of it by evoking logistical problems and technical concerns that could well delay the launch of these partner models. It would thus be a question of a week lag for an exclusive partner (randomly, Sapphire?), or even a release at the beginning of next year for another, non-exclusive meanwhile.

Finally, and there, it would be the pompom for AMD, Igor’s Lab mentions very low inventories for products directly sold by AMD. MBA cards (Made by AMD) would be limited to 10,000 copies of each of the two models for the EMEA zone (Europe, Middle East, Africa)… including 3,000 of each for Germany alone!

Keep in mind that these are just rumors, but if these starving stocks are confirmed and AMD’s partners are forced to push back their releases, the American company may take a blowback. It would not be missing that the performances are not at the level?
