To facilitate fiber optic subscriptions, subscribers will now have access to the reference of their optical terminal outlet (PTO) from their customer area and their invoices. This reference is essential to connect its housing.

When you move and move in and you have to connect your home to fiber optic for the first time (or not), the reference of the optical terminal socket (or PTO) is devilishly useful in that it allows you to identify a socket of the fiber optic network, in the operators’ information systems. In other words, it allows you to connect your box to access the fiber network. To facilitate the process, Arcep wants this reference to appear on the customer area and on consumer invoices.

A reference that will appear on invoices and customer areas in 2023

The optical terminal socket is this small white box identifiable by its size (8 x 8 cm) and its small triangle symbol. Fixed to the wall, the fiber box is connected to it, to access the fiber network. A technician installs it when the room is first connected to fiber. The reference usually takes this format: OO-XXXX-XXXX.

Operators Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free have all committed to displaying the PTO reference of their fiber optic subscribers in online customer areas, from 1er July 2023. For invoices, the reference made up of numbers and letters will appear there from December 31, 2023.

Beyond the connection, this reference is essential in exchanges between sales representatives and infrastructure operators, because it makes it possible to identify each fiber optic line, and therefore to clearly identify the accommodation. And this, in the event of a change of operator, or in the event that one must take out a subscription, after having moved into an already equipped accommodation, for example.

Align with what energy providers are doing

The Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority welcomes here ” a step forward for subscribers, in order to make it easier and more reliable to order a fiber subscription in premises that have already been connected “. Operators are not the only ones to use a unique reference to clearly identify the service delivery point. The natural gas, electricity and other energy networks also use it.

And this number is already listed on the consumer’s electricity and natural gas bills, as well as from their online space. ” The same will be true for fiber optic networks to the subscriber “, confirms the telecoms regulator.

In the case, therefore, where you move in or when you change operator, obtaining the reference of the optical socket of your accommodation will now be easier.
