Scandal in the Swiss video game world! Virtual football fans will not be able to play with the Swiss team in the next part of the Fifa series. The decision of EA Sports, the developer of the world famous game, was made on Friday. “Switzerland will no longer be a playable nation in FIFA 22,” confirmed the EA communications agency.
No exchange of money
This news is a shock for the Swiss Football Association (SFV). “We are surprised and disappointed,” says Adrian Arnold, head of communications for the national team. In the office in Muri no one had a clue: “We received the information in the same way as you, namely via the press release.”
What surprises Arnold and the SFV most is the fact that no money has ever flowed between EA and the association. “You never asked us for anything,” regrets Arnold. “I don’t yet know what this absence will mean for us, but Switzerland was valued in the game and it’s a shame for the people who like the Nati,” he sighs.
Will the SFV react and contact EA Sports? “We have to accept,” says Adrian Arnold. “That is their right, and since we have no economic relationship with each other, it is EA’s business.”
Overnight, the developer decided to forego one of the eight best teams in Europe in the future. The timing of this decision is surprising after the crazy Swiss European Championship success. EA has not responded to request even after several days.
No more African teams
The national team is one of a list of 17 national teams that have been withdrawn from the game. Chile, Uruguay, Egypt and Cameroon no longer exist either. In addition, no African nation is represented. Fifa 22 will be released on September 27th.
