  1. Free kick close, with a swerve, flat

  2. Shoot a free kick as a knuckleball

  3. Free kick variants with other players

EA has changed the standard situations in FIFA 23, including free kicks, and if you want to score goals directly, you should train a bit first. We’ll help you with that.

Of course, it is best to choose a shooter who has high values for free kicks and spins – especially for free kicks from a short distance to the goal. If you shoot from further away, shooting power also becomes more important.

In the following videos you can see how goals are possible. Of course, note that aiming and shot strength are always a little different depending on the position and no shot always works exactly the same. But the tutorials should help you to get better quickly.

Free kick close, with a swerve, flat

To convert a close-range free-kick, aim the right analog stick in the empty corner of the goal between the heads of the wall. In the shooting circle on the ball, place the marker a little further out. Now you press the shot button and charge the bar in about two bars. With a little luck you should sink the free kick.

Alternatively, you can shoot a free kick with the outside of your foot. Aims the direction of flight of the ball towards the pole holding the goal net. The rod is just a rough guide. After all, you want to shoot around the enemy wall.

Move the marker outwards in the shot circle until the outside instep shot appears there. Feel free to move the marker a little further up so you don’t shoot over the goal. Now press the shot button and charge the shot bar about one bar.

If you want to shoot a flat free kick, it’s very easy. Aim in a corner and place the marker slightly higher for a low shot. Now charge the shot button for one or two bars and the shot should succeed.

Shoot a free kick as a knuckleball

A long-distance free kick as a flutter ball is not easy and the scatter is large. Place the shot mark in the circle slightly below the lower horizontal line, as centrally as possible. “Flatterball” must be displayed there.

Be sure to aim for the goal, but a little past the wall. Now press the shot button and charge the shot bar one and a half to two bars. With a bit of luck you’ll score a goal.

Free kick variants with other players

You don’t always have to shoot free kicks directly, because you also have the option of using a second and third player to execute free kick variations.

To summon a second player, press the lower left shoulder button. Now you can perform various maneuvers:

  • Lay ball flat: Hold L2 (PS)/LT (Xbox) and press Shot
  • Present ball high: Hold L2/LT and press flank
  • Walk over ball: Hold L2/LT and short press the shot and flat pass buttons
  • Shoot with second player: Hold L2/LT and then press the fire button

You can also do all these variants with the third player, whom you call by pressing the upper right shoulder button (R1 or RB). The commands are the same, except instead of holding the lower left shoulder button, you now hold the upper shoulder button on the right side of the controller.
