fighting continues this evening on Israeli territory, new rocket fire from Gaza; 200 Israelis and more than 200 Palestinians killed

In France, the position of La France insoumise criticized

La France insoumise (LFI) was accused on Saturday of finding justifications for the Hamas attack against Israel, by denouncing the Islamist movement and Israeli colonization with one voice, a position out of step with the rest of political leaders.

“The armed offensive by Palestinian forces led by Hamas comes in a context of intensification of the Israeli occupation policy in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem”thus affirmed in a press release the party’s parliamentary group.

Party leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon explained that “all the violence unleashed against Israel and in Gaza only proves one thing: violence only produces and reproduces itself”. “Horrified, our thoughts and compassion go out to all the distraught populations affected by all of this. The ceasefire must be imposed”, he added on the X platform.

A position further supported by MP Louis Boyard (LFI) : “France has turned a blind eye to colonization and abuses in Palestine for too long. For too long, France has kept the violence of the Israeli state and that of Palestinian armed groups back to back. »

These LFI statements aroused the anger of elected socialists, allies of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party within the New Ecological and Social Popular Union (Nupes). “Jews are always responsible for what happens to them. It’s a constant in anti-Semitic discourse.”, responded Senator Laurence Rossignol (PS) to Louis Boyard. The president of the Court of Auditors and former socialist minister Pierre Moscovici came out of his reserve to judge “as shocking as it is despairing” the positioning of LFI.

The mayor of Reims, Arnaud Robinet, member of Edouard Philippe’s party, Horizons, for his part asked “the lifting of parliamentary immunity” “rebellious” deputies who “have crossed the red line”inviting “Licra and CRIF to file a complaint”.

Among the “rebellious”, the deputy François Ruffin, one of the potential candidates for the 2027 presidential election, distinguished himself from his party comrades by expressing “total condemnation of the Hamas attack”.
