Netflix has just announced good news: filming for season 5 of Stranger Things has finally started. It was about time, some would say. For good reason, the production of the series fell behind schedule, in particular because of the strike of American actors and screenwriters declared in 2023.
We announced it in our columns in May 2023. Due to the strike declared by the American writers and actors last year, delays in the production of season 5 of Stranger Things were inevitable.
At the time, the Duffer Brothers, the creators of the series, declared that they did not intend to resume writing, let alone begin filming, until an agreement was reached between the different parties. As you know, the strike ended in September 2023 and in the process, the writers of the flagship Netflix series were able to resume writing the last act.
Filming for S5 of Stranger Things finally begins!
It remains to be seen when the cameras would finally start rolling to capture the final confrontation between Vecna, Eleven and the others. Well, we finally have the answer. Indeed, the streaming platform has just confirmed the good news on X (Twitter) this Monday, January 8, 2024: filming for season 5 of Stranger Things has officially started. To illustrate this announcement, Netflix shared an image of the entire cast, accompanied by the Duffer brothers.
However, fans will have to calm their enthusiasm. With filming just beginning in January 2024, it’s hard to see how season 5 of Stranger Things can land on Netflix this year. For good reason, filming should last at least 6 months (if not more). Then comes the post-production period, without forgetting editing. In other words, barring any last minute surprises, it will probably be necessary wait until the start of 2025 to discover the final arc of Stranger Things.
As a reminder, this season 5 promises to be a huge Hollywood blockbuster. In any case, this is what the Duffer Brothers announced in September 2023. “This is a major, major cinematic story that happens to be a TV series. Stranger Things 5 is as big as any of the biggest films we see,” assured the two directors.
