filming is finally finished, release planned for 2025

Andor, the Star Wars spin-off series which follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor, has finished filming its second season, and we now know when it could be released on Disney+.

Andor

The star of the series, Diego Luna announced the news on Instagram, where he thanked the more than 700 people who worked on the production. He also expressed his gratitude for the “incredible experience” and hinted that we will see him again soon.

Andor is a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which features the character Luna as one of the heroes who stole the plans for the Death Star. The series explores his history and his missions for the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Series director Tony Gilroy originally planned a five-season series, but then changed his mind and decided to make season 2 the last, which will lead directly into the events of Rogue One.

When will Andor season 2 be released?

Fans of the series may have to wait a long time before being able to watch season 2 of Andor on Disney+. The series is not expected to launch until 2025, with Disney already planning four more Star Wars series for 2024 : Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3, Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi season 2.

Even though one of the actors of the series, Stellan Skarsgård, who plays Luthen Rael, suggested that season 2 could be released sooner, after “half a year at least”, there is no official confirmation from Disney or Lucasfilm.

One reason for the delay could be the series’ use of practical sets and on-location filming, instead of the cutting-edge Volume technology used by The Mandalorian and other Star Wars series. Volume is a giant LED screen that creates realistic sets and environments for the actors. Andor opts for a more traditional approach, which gives the series a more authentic look, but also requires more time for post-production and special effects.

While filming for season 2 has finished, promotion of the series has not yet started. We will obviously keep you informed as soon as the first trailer is available.
