Is previous knowledge of Final Fantasy 7 Remake required?
According to the official PlayStation website, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be a reimagining of the PlayStation classic told across three standalone games. However, the game is designed to work as a standalone experience. This makes the title also suitable as an entry point for new players.
In a past post on the Final Fantasy X account (Twitter account), Motomu Toriyama, the co-director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, made a similar statement.
According to the post, Square Enix has taken certain precautions so that players who have not played the first title can play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth without any disadvantages.
These precautions should include, among other things, a prologue. As Dexerto reports, this includes the events from Final Fantasy 7 Remake as well as elements from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7. By the way, this is a prequel to the seventh title in the fantasy series.
Bonus for transferring the save data
Although Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second title in the remake trilogy, you cannot transfer saved games to the new title. However, players with existing saves have the opportunity to receive special bonuses. These include, among other things, exclusive summoner materials that can be used to summon espers.
