The long-awaited second part of Final Fantasy VII Remake finally showed up in a short but informative trailer.

This shocking announcement was made as the highlight of the surprise show at the Summer Game Fest opening ceremony.

The rebirth of Final Fantasy VII Remake

It’s been three years since the excellent remake of the legendary seventh installment of Square Enix’s flagship franchise was released, exclusively on PS5. A year later, it’s the extension INTERgrade which appeared. Since then, the Japanese publisher has kept a low profile when it comes to the second part, dubbed Rebirth.

A fitting name as fan hope rises from the ashes, after Geoff Keighley released the trailer below last night to end the opening ceremony of his big video game event in style.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is therefore finally taking shape and adorning itself for the occasion with a release window, set for early 2024. It should also be noted that this second part will first be a PS5 exclusive… and that it will be presented on two Blu-Ray discs !

A second part that promises to be huge in more ways than one

Despite a duration of about 3 minutes, this trailer is rich in information. As one might expect, Rebirth will finally allow us to leave Midgar and explore the wilderness that surrounds the futuristic city. And it could be that two Blu-Ray discs are not too many to survey these new horizons.

Square Enix has indeed wanted to review its copy compared to the first part, offering more openness and exploration to players. We will therefore have to expect a (very?) vast world to discover with Cloud and his friends, partly on the back of Chocobo.

Regarding the gameplay, it seems that the Japanese studio does not intend to fundamentally change a winning team, in particular by retaining the aspect of real-time combat with a tactical break. As for the story, which promises to be ever darker, we will have to wait to see more through Square Enix’s communication… or controller in hand in early 2024 on PS5. The fans of Final Fantasy on a small Cloud?
