Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier: It’s already the end for Square Enix’s Battle Royale

If we were bad-mouthed, we could say that everyone saw it coming, but we will refrain from shooting at the ambulance. Launched last November in Europe, Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier was enough to confuse fans of the JRPG saga since it succumbed to the Battle Royale fashion, by making us embody members of the SOLDIER several decades before the adventure of Cloud and the others began. Obviously, the genre has not convinced fans of the license, since barely a year later, the game will already close its doors.

Failures continue at Square Enix

It only took 4 seasons for Square Enix to realize that Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier was not a success, far from it. The Japanese publisher tells us that the game’s servers will close on January 11, 2023 :

Despite our best efforts to bring you regular updates with new and exciting content, we were unable to provide you with the experience we hoped for and that you all deserve, so we have made the extremely difficult decision. to end service for Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. We would like to thank you all for supporting us over the past year. Although there are just under three months left until the end of the service, we will continue to make updates during this period, so we hope that you will continue to enjoy Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier until at the very end. »

Square Enix’s service games are definitely not on the rise. A few days ago it was Babylon’s Fall which announced its fall, but the closing of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is more symbolic, since the game is based on a license which is normally very promising. Let’s bet that the publisher will learn the right lessons from this failure.
