Final Fantasy XVI: an interesting video interview with actor Ben Starr, who lends his voice to Clive

We are now in the home stretch before the release of Final Fantasy XVI on PS5 on June 22, so inevitably, the news around the game will be affected. Earlier this week, it’s on the side of Game Informer that our gaze turned with sublime illustrations of the brothers Rosfield and both Primordials of fire adorning the cover of the magazine, promising us new information to come. Until this is the case, it is simply Square-Enix who just uploaded a new video. No, no bombastic trailer this time, but a long discussion sequence of about twenty minutes with the English-speaking interpreter of CliveBen Starr, Producer Naoki Yoshida and Localization Manager Michael-Christopher Koji Fox.

To begin with, the actor presents his characterwhose story will at least initially revolve around the theme of revenge, but which will also show love in various ways throughout the game. Apparently, he’s also fun in a subtle way, despite his somewhat stoic side, which we will discover during the adventure. Ben Starr then returns to what makes Clive a good hero, namely his humanity and the losses he suffered which should make us feel compassion for him. He also explains how he got into the role.

Theory buffs will also find it interesting to learn that the protagonist’s greatest challenge is the inner battle he fights despite the struggles against various enemies. He is a character who doubts himself, hates himself and punishes himself. The actor being a fan of the license, he knew the weight that it implied to have this role and did not take it lightly. Besides, he was not the first choice of the developerswho had a clear idea of how Clive was to be played, but the person in question was ultimately unable to take part in the project due to his schedule. Came to audition for a minor role, her performance convinced the voice director to cast her Clive. And of course, a mention to FFXIV is present, since he intends to play it again, he who had only done A Realm Reborn at the time being a dragon knight.

Finally, Michael-Christopher Koji Fox states that the trailers mostly showed us the cool part of Clive and not his emotional sidepromising us a roller coaster emotions, while Naoki Yoshida talks about what the actor’s performances have done to him and the team, encouraging us to come back to see this video once we’ve played FFXVI to compare.
