Finale in the courtroom – incredible “Hangover” weekend for two Viennese people

“A drunken story” of a special kind resulted in a criminal trial: On June 10th, two Viennese men (19 and 21) first arranged to meet men who wanted to be tied up by them – in order to steal from them in this defenseless state. And on the same day they caused a crash with a cyclist, whose apartment they flooded shortly afterwards. They sprayed furniture and musical instruments with a gold rim spray.

Anyone who thought “Hangover” stories only existed in films was proven wrong on Wednesday in the Vienna regional court. Because the two young Viennese Franz and Alexander had a fabulous criminal run on the weekend of June 10th and 11th. “They will partially plead guilty,” says lawyer Sascha Flatz at the start of the strange trial. Looking for victims who want to be tied up. It all started when they registered on Romeo, a dating platform for homosexuals: “In the beginning it was just harmless pranks. We wanted to see whether people would actually come when you arranged to meet them,” the unemployed carpenter told the judge. But then a crime plan emerged that they wanted to implement on June 10, 2023. They specifically looked for men who were interested in bondage – in order – according to the public prosecutor’s office – to rob them while they were defenseless. “It was agreed that we would tie him up the way he wanted and then take something away from him,” says Alexander. Specifically, the cannabis that he had previously told the boys about. The 19-year-old also brought a gas pistol with him to the meeting in his backpack. Which, according to his testimony in court, he never wanted to use. The two got cold feet in the victim’s apartment, which is why they didn’t carry out the planned crime. Another meeting arranged on the same day also failed – the public prosecutor’s office still identified a criminal plot in its criminal complaint. Head-on collision with a cyclist, among other things. Because things were still going on that Saturday in early summer. In an underpass at the Praterstern, Franz crashed his bike into a cyclist he had previously unknown. “I had the feeling that he deliberately drove into me,” the man said as a witness in court. Apparently he pushed Franz slightly after the crash, which is why he angrily decided to follow him. At first, the two defendants tried to kick in his apartment door: “We just knocked and wanted to have a discussion,” they said in the trial. “I was in super shock,” replies the cyclist who called the police. Apartment flooded and vandalized with gold spray Franz and Alexander left, but came back the next day. The cyclist had temporarily gone into hiding for fear of the two returning. This time they successfully kicked in the double doors in the old building. And they went wild in the victim’s apartment. They blocked the drains and turned on all the taps. As a bonus, they sprayed furniture and instruments with a golden rim spray: “It was a stupid, drunken story,” Alexander asserted in the trial. “The next day we woke up and realized what nonsense we had done.” Conditional prison sentences for the young men Ultimately, the two perpetrators got away with five and seven months of conditional imprisonment for serious damage to property or serious damage to property plus bodily harm. In addition, they each have to pay 5,000 euros in compensation to the cyclist. Hopefully it was her last hangover.
