Finally a good alternative to ChatGPT browsing? Bing Chat now lets you use GPT-4 without Microsoft overlay

Microsoft has released a major update for its Bing Chat conversational AI, which is already available on Android and iOS.

This update gives access to GPT-4 without the various Microsoft filters, and above all for free. The company’s stated objective is to free up its chatbot a bit so that it acts as such rather than as an assistant. And other innovations to improve the user experience would also be in the pipeline.

New features implemented

If access to ChatGPT operated by GPT-4 is already a novelty in itself, Microsoft is trying with this update to extend the uses of its chatbot. Until then, Bing Chat allowed you to choose the tone with which it should respond to you (more creative or more precise, for example), but not to free yourself from it. Useful, these features couldn’t be turned off, giving the chatbot an image of a Bing assistant, a far cry from the more creative and sometimes nonsensical responses of other conversational AIs. Remember that when it was launched, Bing Chat tended to be ironic, even sometimes aggressive.

From now on, by clicking on the GPT-4 button, you have access to all the potential of ChatGPT as on its original version, and without pre-established tone, even if this possibility does not disappear for all that. This is probably part of a broader plan by the company to develop the uses of its chatbot, which until now have been mainly confined to improving Internet research. This last point, moreover, should also undergo some changes in the future.

Soon a mode without research?

In addition to these novelties, Microsoft would also be developing a new mode for Bing Chat: the mode without research. While giving artificial intelligences continuous access to the Internet was the logical next step for some, and presented a risk for others, users seem to have decided: it is above all far from always being essential.

Currently, even for the simplest questions, Bing Chat seeks answers on the Internet beforehand, like a classic search engine user, in the end. This can cause quite a long delay, especially when it comes to answers the AI ​​already has. But Microsoft would be working on a new version, which would be able to give almost instantaneous answers for simple questions.

No revolution in the features therefore, but this latest update and the next ones clearly aim to extend the uses and improve the user experience.
