WhatsApp has announced the global rollout over the next few weeks of a long-awaited feature: high-resolution photo sending, so your loved ones receive your best shots in the best possible quality.
It’s official. In beta since June 2023, sending photos without loss of quality on the WhatsApp service will now be rolled out in a stable manner to users around the world in the coming weeks. Frandroid learned the news via a press release sent to the editorial staff.
Until then, photos sent to your loved ones from a WhatsApp conversation did not retain the original quality of the file. And this, in particular, to avoid saturating the storage of your interlocutor. This era is now over, since the application of Meta will let you choose between two options.
The default standard mode
On the one hand, it will be possible to send your photos in standard quality – it is this mode that will be selected by default to ensure rapid sharing -, on the other hand, you can transfer your photos in high resolution. Everything is always protected by end-to-end encryption.
For the moment, WhatsApp does not specify the location of this option. But according to the beta already seen earlier, it will be enough to click on “HD” in the photo editor. Next, a window should appear to select “Standard Quality” or “HD Quality”. The file definition and size should also be mentioned.
The recipient will also have the choice
In its announcement, WhatsApp states:For images received with low bandwidth, it will then be possible to choose, image by image, to keep the standard version or to save it in high definition“. History to leave room for maneuver to the recipient of the photo.
WhatsApp finally specifies that “high-definition video sharing will soon be available”, without giving more temporal details.
