finally a release date for the DLC and a big surprise

As promised, the second DLC of FF16 has once again come to light, and it promises to be a huge slap in the face. As a bonus, we had a release date.

Currently, fans of the Final Fantasy franchise are probably having a blast alongside Cloud and the gang in Rebirth. Nothing unusual, it’s a pure marvel that we invite you to do if you haven’t done it yet. But for its part, FF16 is far, very far from having said its last word. The game still has more than one trick up its sleeve, and you probably know where we’re going with this. We are of course talking about its new DLC: The Rising Tide. The latter has just shown up during a big event, with… a release date!

The second DLC of FF16 shows itself again

Remember, a month ago, Square Enix set us an appointment not to be missed. Time was going to be devoted to FF16 during PAX East in Boston. As expected, the team behind the game responded on March 22, 2024 to talk about the expansion called “The Rising Tide”. This therefore includes Takeo Kujiraoka, the director of the DLC or Naoki Yoshida, the producer of the title. After Echoes of the Fallen, we can’t wait to get our hands on this new DLC, which has been very mysterious since its announcement. Fortunately, we are now a little less in the dark.

In fact, so far, we’ve only had part of a trailer to get our teeth into. It must be admitted, it’s a bit light. Thanks to him, we were still able to know that we were going to Mysidia, a mage village well known to license aficionados. Leviathan will be there, and we can say that it was about time given its popularity. Small important reminder, but we already know the lifespan of this adventure. Kujiraoka had already spoken on this subject, and he said that we could count on around ten hours of play before seeing the end of it. It’s pretty substantial.

In any case, the new trailer for the FF16 DLC presents its story in a little more detail, and the challenges to come. The gameplay is obviously in the spotlight, notably the fight against Leviathan which is simply impressive. We also see Clive using his power on certain enemies, and once again, visually, we are given a nice slap in the face. This is not the only video that was shown on The Rising Tide, since different aspects of the expansion were highlighted.

And the release date then?

During PAX East, the developers looked back on the history of the expansion. Like “saving” Leviathan by pummeling it with Ifrit. Well, we won’t have the answer, but we are underlined the importance of this confrontation for the survival of the Eikon. We are also told that it will be a rather tough fight. We are therefore advised to master Ifrit thoroughly before embarking on the DLC. The latter has other surprises in store, such as new end game content. But we still haven’t come to the announcement that everyone is waiting for, namely the release date. This is set for April 18, 2024 for a price of $19.99 for around ten additional hours of play.

And that’s not all. A big free update will be available immediately. No launch date has been revealed, however. It will bring some requested features such as changes to quest icons, the ability to create and save 5 attack profiles, adjust accessory effects, 40 new pieces for the Orchestrion and much more. A collaboration with FF14 is also planned, just like with FF Brave Exvius. Both will arrive sometime in April 2024, with no release date set. For the PC version, you will have to wait a little longer, Yoshi-P simply reminding us that it is coming “soon”.
