Faced with the lengthening of the deadlines for obtaining identity papers, the State is setting up a search engine which should make it possible to receive your passport or identity card more quickly.

What to do except wait, when his passport application is lying at the bottom of the files of the town hall? This is a question that has bothered many people in recent months, while the deadlines for issuing official papers have lengthened considerably in 2022. To deal with this, the administration is setting up a search engine intended to streamline the requests.

A complicated post-COVID situation

The years 2020 and 2021 have been special, marked by the COVID crisis, blocking part of the world’s population within national borders. Things only started to change in 2022, with a gradual reopening of international trade. The opportunity then to renew their outdated papers, which has thus prompted many French people to turn to their town hall to redo their passport or identity card.

And the influx of these citizens in need quickly had an impact on the time required to obtain an appointment, which has increased to an average of 50 days for the current year. Knowing that it then takes about thirty days to produce the piece in question, it often takes 80 days to finally come into possession of the famous sesame. Suffice to say that it was time for the state to react.

A search engine to find your appointment

We had thus learned that the government would put 20 million euros on the table to finance new fingerprinting devices and recruitment. At the same time, another initiative has just led to the creation of a search engine developed by the National Agency for Secure Documents (ANTS).

By entering a maximum search distance (20, 40 or 60 kilometres), its location, the reason for the meeting and the number of people concerned by the process, it is possible to find the town halls which, in the geographical field of research, offer appointments in the next three months. A small tool that is likely to be particularly useful, knowing that if this year 9 million people renewed their papers, they should be 14 million in 2023!
