The gadgets (or widgets in the language of the Redmond firm) struggle to convince users of Windows 11. But Microsoft is adding tools that may well change that.
We’re a bit of a gossip, because the weather, news, or even quick access to certain applications is still practical. When it works.
Windows 11 refines its widgets
After reintegrating direct access to the task manager by right-clicking, Microsoft continues to improve easy access to some of its central tools. Today, through new gadgets in the section reserved for them, it is possible at a glance to see the level of use of system resources: use of the processor, memory, GPU or network connections. Figures and graphs are there.
All of this is already viewable in the task manager and from the Game Bar with the shortcut Win + G (or third-party applications), but this new one-click access is definitely a good idea. On the other hand, like other gadgets elsewhere (hello Spotify), these newcomers still seem a little prone to bugs. But that’s not very surprising.
How to install these new gadgets?
Indeed, these new gadgets are currently only accessible after installing the preview of the Dev Home application. This is available in the Microsoft Store. As the name suggests, it is an open-source software aimed at developers, allowing them to manage their workflow and coding tasks in one place. Then, in the gadgets panel (Win + W), just click on the “+” at the top right to find the tools of your choice.
It remains to be seen when these gadgets will be offered to everyone without having to install this application. For the moment, in addition to news, gadgets for Messenger, Spotify, or even several Microsoft tools (tasks, Outlook calendar, Connected Mobile, Game Pass, Photos, etc.) are available.
