Finally home – Nemo celebrates in his hometown of Biel – News

Singing talent Nemo returns to Biel after stormy weeks. The city and its people welcome him with a celebration.

Five weeks after winning the Eurovision Song Contest, Nemo celebrated his birthday in Biel on Monday evening. A party was organized in Nemo’s honor on the packed Burgplatz.

“Every morning I walked past this square to school,” said Nemo, visibly moved. “And now you are all here because of me. It could just be a very absurd dream.” Standing here is a great honor. “Je t’aime, Bienne!”

Fans sing the winning song “The Code”

Nemo had once attended the Biel Music School, which had prepared a medley for the celebration. While Nemo mingled with the audience, children sang lines from the song “The Code,” with which Nemo had won the largest international music competition on May 11.

Nemo comes from Biel – and Biel is right in the middle of it all with Nemo’s victory. We are all enjoying this together today on the castle square.

Mayor Erich Fehr (SP) described Nemo as a “typical child from Biel”. His huge talent was evident many years ago. “The ESC victory is something like the European music championship title – probably even the world championship title, because there is no other continent like it. Nemo comes from Biel – and with Nemo’s victory, Biel is right in the middle of it. We are all enjoying that together today on the Burgplatz,” Fehr told “Schweiz aktuell”.

“You have won the hearts of the jury and the audience all over the world,” said the President of the Bernese Grand Council, Dominique Bühler (Greens). She expressed the hope that the ESC 2025 will be held in the canton of Bern.

Turbulent times and new opportunities

Since winning the Eurovision Song Contest, Nemo says he has been in a whirlwind. The 24-year-old star reported this in Biel.

The last five weeks have been crazy.

Shortly before the festival began in his home town, Nemo said: “The last five weeks have been crazy. Everything happened very quickly. I wanted to go on a little road trip to Cannes and drove off by car.” Then the management contacted him about a promotional event in London. Nemo felt very comfortable in the British capital. “I could well imagine living in London and Switzerland in the future.”

Life since winning the ESC has been intense, but also full of opportunities – many doors have opened. Over the course of the summer, Nemo will perform at festivals at home and abroad.
