finally the announcement long awaited by fans

Generally speaking, the Kingdom Hearts franchise is very discreet, but news has just fallen, and it will please fans of the Keyblade wielder.

Last September, Kingdom Hearts fans were treated to a rather special announcement. For good reason, it did not come from Square Enix, but rather from Nintendo. Indeed, during a Direct, big news fell for Sora, the main character of the games in the license. And today, there is yet another one to communicate, and it will be very pleasant.

Kingdom Hearts is back, but not in the way you think

Before you get excited, know that this is not strictly speaking an announcement about a new Kingdom Hearts game. You probably understood it when we mentioned Big N, but it’s about Sora’s presence in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The fighting game is officially celebrating its fifth birthday, and to celebrate, it has revealed the date on which the famous Keyblade wielder amiibo will arrive. For collectors, this will be the time to heat up the credit card.

It will therefore land on February 16, 2024 in stores in the United States. Don’t worry, it should be the same for us. This is rather emotional news, because once this date passes, all members of the cast of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have had their own amiibo. As a reminder, the Kingdom Hearts franchise entered the title more than two years ago in the form of DLC with Sora. But Nintendo didn’t stop there, and it intends to celebrate the anniversary of its game as it should.

Indeed, we are still talking about the five years of Smash Bros. Ultimate. It wouldn’t really do him credit to just have an announcement for Kingdom Hearts. Thus, gifts have been deployed for players via an in-game event which will begin on December 8, 2023 and end on the 13th of the month. On the menu, gain experience points and SP multiplied by 5. Along the way, you will also be able to recover a total of 5 “Snack L”. Finally, another event will be held in January, with new minds involved, which is quite welcome.

And KH 4 in all this?

Coming back to KH, you have to be patient, at least if you wait for the fourth opus. On the other hand, there is indeed a new game coming out, and it has recently shown signs of life. It is Kingdom Hearts Missing–Link, a free-to-play which undoubtedly reserves its share of mysteries. It will be available in current 2024 on iOS and Android, and a closed beta will take place in January 2024 on Android, but not in Europe. We are still waiting for news on this subject, because it would be a bit of a shame to miss such an opportunity. That said, the closed beta will only be reserved for 5000 participants, half on iOS, the other on Android.

As for the game itself, it will take place after the events of Union χ, but before those of Kingdom Hearts Dark Road. We will play a character named Chi, who will go on a mission after the tragedy that took place in the City of Dawn. Indeed, the city sank into darkness (we don’t joke about that in the franchise) following the Keyblade War, and the repercussions are visibly dramatic. In terms of gameplay, we would be facing a sort of derivative of Pokémon Go, with a map linked to the real world, but where we would not necessarily need to move.
