Guest of the “Grand Rendez-Vous” Éric Woerth, former member of the Republicans, returned to his rallying to Emmanuel Macron. The former minister also announces that he does not wish to resign from his position as chairman of the finance committee, despite the criticism.
The announcement had the effect of a bomb in the National Assembly. Eric Woerth, MP and Chairman of the Finance Committee, announced this week that he is joining Emmanuel Macron, in view of the next presidential election. An announcement strongly criticized by members of the Republicans, his former political family, but also by the rest of the opposition.
“There are no more votes”
In particular, his function as chairman of the finance committee, which until now was attributed to a member of the opposition. An important detail that the deputy of La France Insoumise, Ugo Bernalicis, did not fail to recall this Wednesday in the hemicycle of the National Assembly. Faced with attacks, Eric Woerth does not wish to leave his post: “I will not leave. The Assembly will sit for another ten days so I will not resign, especially since I have my report (to present) in a week,” he said at the microphone of Europe 1.
“I spoke to Christian Jacob, the president of the Republican Party, he is not necessarily very happy,” comments the former minister. Éric Woerth nevertheless specifies that this will have no consequences for the institution: “I would like to remind you that there is no longer a vote and that there is no longer any control work at the Finance Committee either. We are only in auditions so no, I do not want to resign from this mandate”, he explains. And to add: “I know that it would please some but sorry, I will not do it”.
