The top 10 favorite dishes of the French fell last June. If everyone can have their opinion on the matter, as underlined Konbinia survey conducted by the CSA Institute and the TV show The 10 favorite dishes, the ranking of the French on C8 give a definite answer. Presented by multi-starred chef Yannick Alléno and food critic Raphaële Marchal, the show highlighted the dishes that were voted for by the survey results.
Some may be surprised at the result. It is indeed chicken and fries, an iconic dish of French brasseries and rotisseries, which takes the top spot. He is ahead other popular dishes : raclette, pizza, couscous, beef bourguignon, blanquette, quiche Lorraine, paella, sauerkraut and cassoulet. Typical French dishes remain in vogue, as do couscous and paella.

Nostalgic dishes
In a Facebook post spotted by Konbiniculinary expert Bernard Boutboul wonders: “The latest survey of the favorite dishes of the French is surprising to say the least. Of the ten dishes there are nine of them that we find quite a few on the maps restaurants.” Indeed, most of the dishes are rather found in brasseries, or in specialized restaurants. “And of the ten favorite dishes, how many dishes are made at home?he continues. Apart from the raclette (which is not from the kitchen), the chicken and fries (the fries not sure) and possibly the quiche Lorraine, I’m not sure we make them at home.” Restaurants should perhaps look at this survey to refine their menu. Bernard Boutboul also looks at a second CSA institute survey, this time focusing on desserts. Chocolate fondant, tiramisu, crème brûlée, chocolate mousse… Desserts which regularly appear on the menus. “With hindsight on the salty and sweet favorites of the French, we feel a regressive or nostalgic side as well as a certain return to childhood”, he analyzes. Perhaps the chicken and fries, champion of savory dishes, also evokes family meals.
