Fips Asmussen: German cult comedian died at the age of 82

Long-time German comedian and solo entertainer Fips Asmussen died at the age of 82, as his daughter confirms.

Fips Asmussen (1938-2020) is dead. This is what the "Bild" newspaper reports, citing a daughter of the German comedian and solo entertainer. Asmussen was admitted to a hospital in Querfurt a few days ago because of cancer and died there on Sunday afternoon. Born in Hamburg, little was known about his private life, moved to Querfurt in the 1990s.

Asmussen was particularly known for telling numerous jokes quickly. He was a comedian for more than forty years and published many books, among other things.

Kalkofe enjoyed Asmussen's performances

Shortly after his death became known, colleagues of the comedian spoke up on social media. "Germany's first rapid-fire joke-thrower and cult joke-king with Minipli #FipsAsmussen is dead", wrote Oliver Kalkofe (54, "Kalkofes Mattscheibe") on Twitter. "Even if he never really laughed at my parody, I always really enjoyed his performances."

"The great, style-forming creator of thousands of jokes, the veteran, Fips Asmussen, is dead," explained Torsten Sträter (53) on Twitter. The writer and cabaret artist added: "We adored him and of course robbed him. A minute's silence please."
