Fire brigade in action – small child triggered fire in residential building

Students at the Arnfels state vocational school (Leibnitz district) noticed a fire on the upper floor of a residential building on Wednesday and informed the emergency services. A small child may have started the fire.

Shortly before 2 p.m., students at the Arnfels State Vocational School noticed heavy smoke and flames on the upper floor of a residential building across the street during their gymnastics lessons on a sports field. A window-clad balcony of an apartment had caught fire. The rapid intervention of the fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading to other rooms and the fire was quickly brought under control. According to previous investigations, a small child (4 years old) may have ignited with a lighter and a couch on the balcony caught fire The family, who was in an adjoining room when the fire broke out, was able to leave the upper floor unharmed. The amount of damage is not yet known.
