"Fire cannot be ruled out": Swiss Post is calling back 12,000 street scooters

Once started as a showcase project of Deutsche Post, the production end of the Streetscooter electric transporter has long been sealed. Now the next breakdown follows. Due to the risk of fire, the company sends thousands of vehicles to the workshop for inspection.

Deutsche Post has called over 12,000 electric vans into the workshop: The vehicles of the WORK and WORK L series are at risk of smoke and heat, the company said. A fire cannot be ruled out, said a spokesman.

The reason is weaknesses in the area of the low-voltage charger and the insulation of a cable harness. However, the two weak points pose no risk to the driver. The company emphasized that the recall was voluntary and not ordered.

Swiss Post has briefly examined half of the 10,000 vehicles it uses in series tests. Only a small fraction showed these weaknesses. In principle, the vehicles of the affected series should be brought to the workshop, checked and repaired if necessary in agreement with the Federal Motor Transport Authority within twelve months.

There is no connection between the current weaknesses and the two battery fires that occurred two years ago, the company said. The trade magazine "kfz -betrieb" had previously reported. At the beginning of the year, Deutsche Post announced that it would completely stop producing its street scooter electric transporters in 2020.
