(dpa) A fire in a high-rise building in east London has led to a large-scale operation by the fire brigade and rescue workers. After a fire broke out on an upper floor of the glass building on Monday afternoon, apartments and offices were being evacuated, the London police said.

The fire brigade deployed more than 120 people and around 20 vehicles to extinguish the fire. The surrounding streets in the East London Borough of Aldgate have been closed. The cause of the fire was initially unclear – as was whether people were injured.

Videos showed large flames belching out of the building’s window while debris fell to the ground.
