Fire letter to Merkel: trade association urges vaccination

Fire letter to Merkel
Trade association urges vaccination

For months now, retailers have been appealing to their customers to get vaccinated. Apparently the appeal is not fruitful. The central association of retailers is now calling for the “prompt introduction of a constitutionally designed general vaccination requirement with clearly defined exceptions”.

The German retail sector has spoken out in favor of compulsory vaccination. “Especially with a view to the currently discussed restrictive measures for society and the economy, an obligation to vaccinate must be pursued accordingly,” writes the HDE trade association in a letter to the Executive Chancellor Angela Merkel. A “prompt introduction of a constitutionally designed general vaccination obligation with clearly defined exceptions” is required.

For months now, retailers have been appealing to their customers to get vaccinated. So far, however, he had not advocated compulsory vaccination. Many areas of the retail sector were particularly hard hit by the corona pandemic because of the shop closings ordered during the lockdowns. “Since the beginning of the Corona crisis, trade has brought significant special sacrifices, although at no point could it be described as a driver of incidence,” said the letter to the CDU politician.

The main goal must be to increase the vaccination quota in Germany and to consistently promote third-party vaccinations, the HDE announced. Because currently the vaccination quota is not sufficient to contain a fourth wave sufficiently. “Therefore, the legislator is now required to initiate targeted measures to get the pandemic under control and to prevent further suffering. According to all previous knowledge, the 2G or 3G requirements for customer access in retail, which have been partially introduced in the federal states, are expressly not included . “

Medium-sized companies fear an economic meltdown

Meanwhile, the Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises urged the incumbent and future federal government not to lose any more time, but to act immediately and consistently. There is no getting around the quick introduction of a general compulsory vaccination, said Federal Managing Director Markus Jerger. “Although this comes too late to fight the fourth corona wave, it spares people and the economy from worse. In view of the dramatic development of the pandemic, this is the only way to avert an impending lockdown.”

With regard to an impending corona lockdown during the Christmas business, medium-sized companies fear losses: “If businesses and retailers had to forcibly close again during the important Christmas business, we would have an economic meltdown: Entire sectors would be affected and a large number of medium-sized companies would have to do another one Do not survive lockdown economically. ” For the companies it follows that the 3G rule must be strictly controlled or 2G must be introduced – that would mean: Access to companies only for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

“In plain language: employees who do not want to vaccinate, with the exception of medical exceptions, must then feel the consequences of their actions in the wage packet,” said Jerger. “Overloaded hospitals and postponed operations cost lives, and the virus does not take personal sensitivities into account.”
