Cable television is already included in many rental agreements. You pay the fee for this through the additional costs. However, this will be banned in Germany in July 2024. Then the so-called additional cost privilege no longer applies. If you as a tenant want to continue watching television, you will have to sign a contract with the cable provider yourself or look for an alternative reception option. What many people don’t know is that this is already available in many households in the form of the Fire TV Stick.
With the TV stick you can not only watch films and series on Amazon Prime, Netflix and Co., but also receive linear television. All you have to do is press the Alexa button on the remote control and say, for example, “Alexa, switch to ZDF”. The public broadcasters can be received via the stick free of charge and without additional software; you just have to activate a corresponding option beforehand. This is available on all Fire TV Stick models – even the affordable Fire TV Stick Lite.
Fire TV Stick also allows watching TV over the Internet
With additional apps you can also receive private channels – sometimes even free of charge. The “Joyn” app, for example, offers you the free version of the live stream of all free-to-air channels from the ProSieben Group. However, if you want to watch all channels in HD or pay TV, you need apps like Waipu.tv or Zattoo and a corresponding subscription. Even with a subscription, you can currently often get away cheaper than if you take out a cable contract. Depending on the provider, this costs around 10 euros per month.
