“Fired like a thug”: the bittersweet memories of Jean-Pierre Castaldi on Fort Boyard

This Thursday, January 6, Jean-Pierre Castaldi was invited on the airwaves of VL radio. The actor returned in particular to the time when he hosted Fort Boyard. A moment of which he has fond memories, even if he admits that his departure was very hard to take.

For over 30 years, Fort Boyard continues to fascinate young and old. Over time, the show has been hosted by various hosts. For more than 10 years, the game of France 2 was presented by Patrice Laffont. Then it’s the actor Jean-Pierre Castaldi Who succeeded him in 2000, before being replaced three years later by the current host, Olivier Minne. In an interview with the show The Actuvors on VL, the father of Benjamin Castaldi returned to his experience in the program, of which he has fond memories even if he expressed his bitterness about his ousting.

A year before finding himself at the helm of Fort Boyard, Jean-Pierre Castaldi participated as a candidate. But at the time, he was not interested in taking on the role of presenter, fearing that his career would be stuck. “I didn’t want to do it. First of all because compared to an acting career, it is not necessarily ideal for making a comeback to the cinema. And then, it’s big machines, we do not realize. It’s quite a thing, it’s heavy to do“, he explained.

Jean-Pierre Castaldi: “I was very sad”

But thanks to Marie-France Brière, the former producer of the show, Jean-Pierre Castaldi agrees to be seduced by the project. “She said to me: ‘Jean-Pierre, you are adored by the kids’. I did Fort Boyard, it was a great experience “, he admits even if he admits that the end of his adventure was difficult to swallow. A discomfort that he had also expressed to Alexia Laroche-Joubert, the current producer of Fort Boyard. I was fired as a thug after two years. There, I was very sad, because I would have continued “, he regretted, before adding that this experience had been very beneficial to him: “And at the same time, they did me a favor by leaving, because I kept a coefficient compared to children, teenagers, incredible, because on the Internet, we hit the mark “.
