Jason Momoa, US actor with Hawaiian roots, calls on Instagram for donations for the island of Maui, which is fighting forest fires.

On the second largest Hawaiian island Wildfires rage on Maui, causing a humanitarian catastrophe. According to media reports, several people have already died in the flames. The historic city of Lahaina, popular with tourists, was particularly affected by the inferno and has already been engulfed in flames in large parts. Hawaiian authorities speak of at least 4,000 tourists who are currently trying to escape the danger zone.

In order to support the residents of the disaster island in their plight, the US actor Jason Momoa (44), who was born in Hawaii in 1979, called now in a dramatic appeal on Instagram to donate.

“We are shocked and heartbroken”

There the Hollywood star, known from films like “Aquaman” or “Dune”, wrote: “We are shocked and heartbroken about our friends and ‘ohana [“erweiterte Familie”] on Maui affected by recent wildfires. Link in our bio to organizations that help.” One of the linked donation recipients is the local one Aid organization Āina Momonawhich works for a healthy environment and social justice on the island chain in the Pacific Ocean.

Many celebrities own homes on Maui

Last but not least, Momoa’s appeal is also aimed at numerous celebrities who own houses on Maui or do business there. They include “Dirty Harry” star Clint Eastwood (93), Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler (75), star presenter Oprah Winfrey (69) and actor Owen Wilson (54).
