Fear spread in Kundl in February. First, a laundry room was engulfed in flames, a few days later the carnival float of the local country youth went up in flames. There was soon talk of arson in the town. When a garage and car caught fire on February 26, the police had long been on the alert. The suspect was caught after the third fire. The 56-year-old was caught by the executive that same night. “He behaved suspiciously and wanted to cover his tracks,” said Katja Tersch, head of the Tyrol State Criminal Police Office. Among other things, footprints are said to have indicated the suspect. Because of arson and negligent endangerment of the community before the judge, the trial against the 56-year-old is now scheduled for Monday. The allegations weigh heavily. The accused is said to have stored 25,000 liters of diesel and 100 gas bottles with around 1000 kilograms of gas unsecured in the densely built-up residential area.
