The US aviation giant Boeing has agreed on compensation with most of the relatives of the victims of the Lion Air crash of a 737 Max aircraft in Indonesia. Comparisons have now been made in more than 90 percent of deaths, the company said.
In total, complaints in connection with 171 of the 189 people who died on October 29, 2018 during the Lion Air flight of the 737 Max accident machine had been completely or partially settled. Boeing did not disclose the amount of the compensation or other details. A spokesman only said that they were happy with the progress and believed that they would compensate the families fairly.
Also funds from compensation funds
Shortly after the accident in Indonesia, another Boeing 737 Max crashed in Ethiopia, killing 157 people. Here, too, Boeing faces lawsuits. The US group is suspected of rushing the 737 Max onto the market and neglecting safety. A software error is the decisive cause of the crash. Flight bans have been in effect on the 737 Max since March 2019.
In parallel to the settlement negotiations, Boeing already offered funds from a $ 100 million compensation fund to relatives of plane crash victims in Indonesia and Ethiopia about a year ago. The money should also benefit communities affected by the crashes. In cooperation with non-governmental organizations and local authorities, it will be used in programs such as education and development, Boeing said.
