Each year, the authors Stéphanie Rapoport and Claire Tabarly Perrin establish a ranking of the first names most often used in France, based on data from INSEE. From the 736,000 births last year, they reveal, in The official names 2022, the list of the first names of girls and boys most popular with French parents.

Emma and Gabriel give way to Jade and Léo.
At the top of the ranking for several years now, the first names Emma and Gabriel have been dethroned by Jade and Léo. Even if Emma and Gabriel are on the decline, they still retain a good place in the top 100 since Gabriel is on the second step of the podium and Emma on the third step of the podium. In an interview with Le Parisien, Stéphanie Rapoport points out that the first names Emma and Gabriel “have already held up for an exceptionally long period”.
According to The Official Names 2022, the top 3 female first names 2022 are:

Parents always looking for an old or short name
Retro names are still on the rise. In 2022, the first names Juliette, Marceau, Léon, Louis, Jules or even Joséphine should remain at the top of the ranking. Short first names, of one or two syllables, should also be very popular with future parents in 2022. Thus, the first names Mia, Tom, Noah, Inès or even Paul remain high in the ranking.
First names in “a” for girls and biblical names for boys
First names ending in a are, as always, in great demand by future parents for their little girl. Léa, Lina, Mia, Anna and Mila appear in the top 20 female first names for 2022. For boys, the names of characters from the Bible are sources of inspiration for parents and should remain so for 2022. Raphaël, Aaron, Adam, Eden should keep their attraction for future births.
