First-person football? This is the idea that will revolutionize the broadcasting of matches

For the very first time in football history, a camera has been placed on the shirts of two players. An unprecedented experience that could well revolutionize the broadcasting of future matches.

The world of football is definitely fond of new technologies. Whereas the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will allow for the first time in history the use of a connected ball capable of detecting offsides to the nearest millimeter, technology invites itself this time on the jersey of football players. During the recent friendly match between FC Cologne and AC Milan, two players from the German team did indeed wear a curious object in the center of their shirts. It was actually a camera.

A camera placed on the players offers an incredible immersive first person view

The camera placed on the players’ shirts was thus able to broadcast completely crazy images of the match, with an incredible immersive first-person view. As you can see in the tweet below. The immersion is almost total and you can easily take yourself for a full-fledged football player by viewing the images from the camera. This invention is to be credited to MindFly, an Israeli specialist company. The latter will push its system even further from the start of next season by equipping Euroleague basketball players with this technology.

With these images in the first person and in immersive view, the broadcasting of sports matches could therefore be revolutionized very quickly. Especially since the system is not really annoying for the players. In particular because the high definition camera is placed on a bra worn by the player, the latter being used to wearing this type of vest during training (especially to carry a GPS sensor). A hole is then left in the player’s jersey to give the camera free rein. And it only has to do its job and offer the wonderful images of the match.
