What was that crazy second run in the Wengen slalom? There was Lucas Braathen, for example. The young Norwegian, who crashed so badly last season and was out for months, won thanks to an absolutely amazing run. He started the second race with number 29.

He couldn’t believe it until the end. The 21-year-old kept shaking and had tears in his eyes even before the last drivers. And when Henrik Kristoffersen, Braathen’s compatriot, retired as the last driver in the second run shortly before the finish, it was a fact. The young skier won the race.

“Words can’t describe it”

Behind him, Daniel Yule came in strong second. The 28-year-old raced onto the podium thanks to a top run. In the end he was 22 hundredths behind Braathen. It is the first Swiss slalom podium in Wengen since 1999. Yule said after the race: “It feels really good. The last few times have not always been easy. It’s great to get a result like that.” The second best Swiss was Loïc Meillard, he finished 7th. Ramon Zenhousen, who was fourth after the first run, fell far behind after a faulty second run (15th).

The Swiss Ski Festival in Wengen continues. After great performances in the last few days, the Swiss slalom riders also caused wild fans. And a little bit of the sensational Braathen.

After the race, he said that it was simply great. «Wengen is one of my favorite places to ski. The fans deserve a show. I love you fans. It was just amazing.” his joy? Understandable. Yule was overjoyed too. (sss/nih)
