Netflix has adapted Joyce Carol Oates’ fictional portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Now there are pictures of Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe.

In the film “Blonde” based on the successful novel by Joyce Carol Oates (84), Ana de Armas (34) embodies the legendary Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962). The Netflix production, like the novel, will be a fictional portrait of the deceased sex symbol. Now the streaming service has a first teaser trailer published, in which Ana de Armas is visually transformed into the Hollywood legend.

In addition, Netflix new pictures released, which also features de Armas in iconic looks by the singer-actress. According to the streaming service, Ana de Armas spent between two and a half and three hours in makeup every morning during the 47 days of filming. “We worked on this film for hours every day for almost a year,” recalls de Armas in a Netflix post.

“Each scene is inspired by an existing photograph. We studied every detail in the photograph and discussed what was happening in it. The first question was always, ‘What did Norma Jeane feel here?'” the actress explains. “We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame made Marilyn the most visible person on earth, but it also made Norma the most invisible.”

“Blonde”: That’s what it’s about

“Blonde” (German title: “Blond”) therefore illuminates the gap between private individuals and public figures. From her troubled childhood as Norma Jeane to Monroe’s rise to stardom and romantic involvements, “Blonde” deliberately blurs the lines between fact and fiction. The action takes place in the 1950s and 1960s.

Directed by Andrew Dominik (54), who landed a hit in 2007 with “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”. He also penned the screenplay for “Blonde”. Brad Pitt (58) and his company Plan B are responsible for the production. Bobby Cannavale (52), Adrien Brody (49) and Julianne Nicholson (50) are to be seen in other roles. The film will be available to watch worldwide on Netflix starting September 23.
