First test of a gaming laptop with Arc A730M GPU: Intel is still far from the mark!

While the first laptops equipped with an Intel Arc graphics card are still waiting in France, the Asian market is slowly starting to be served. A Chinese user was able to get his hands on a gaming laptop PC with the Arc A730M, a high-end version of the Arc series.

Luckily, the user was also equipped with a similar laptop, but this time equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card. Both laptops being equipped with the same processor (Intel Core i7-12700H) and with a very similar power envelope (120 W for the Intel GPU and 115 W for that of Nvidia), the results are therefore directly comparable. The opportunity for him to oppose the Intel GPU equipped with the latest drivers (30.0.101.1735) to its direct competitor scratched Nvidia.

This test was carried out on eight games, and the result is generally in favor of the Nvidia graphics card. Indeed, apart from Metro Exodus, the configuration equipped with the Intel GPU is systematically exceeded by that with the Nvidia GPU. By averaging the obtained frames per second rates and excluding Counter-Strike, which suffers from an obvious lack of optimization, the Intel Arc A730 is on average 25% less efficient than the RTX 3060. treatments — were also provided. Again, the advantage is with Nvidia with differences between 20 to 515%!

Pilots still immature

Faced with these somewhat disappointing results, it is clear that Intel’s graphics drivers are still not perfect. A problem that had already been highlighted by the manufacturer and which led to a postponement of the launch of this Arc series. However, Intel will not be able to delay forever with the release of its GPUs, the desktop versions and the worldwide availability of the mobile variants being planned for the course of the summer.
