The first trailer for the “Road House” remake with Jake Gyllenhaal tries to capture the charm of the original with Patrick Swayze. With success?

In 1989, Patrick Swayze (1952-2009), who left us much too soon, ensured law and order in the “Road House”. In the new edition, which will come directly to Prime Video on March 21st, “Nightcrawler” star Jake Gyllenhaal (43) diligently distributes educational bells to naughty bullies. With what thieving joy he does this, proves the first trailer for the action-packed remake. Gyllenhaal even takes on a real bad boy.

UFC fighter Conor McGregor (35) turns out to be one of the quickest henchmen in the trailer. The mixed martial arts star doesn’t have to play up his manic energy – the controversial Irishman is at least as notorious outside the octagon as he is inside it. “Road House” will show whether he ultimately has acting talent – it is his first role in a feature film.

Gyllenhaal knows where the stick is

Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal has already impressively proven that he can credibly dish out blows. In 2015, he played the lead role in Antoine Fuqua’s (58) boxer drama “Southpaw” and gained numerous kilos of muscle mass for it.

The trailer for “Road House” shows that the makers are fundamentally based on the charming, bizarre plot of the original, but also deviate here and there. Philosophy graduate James Dalton (Swayze) becomes Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter. The scene is no longer Jasper County, Missouri, but a comparable town in Florida. In both versions, the main character keeps an eye on a young nurse and, quite by chance, becomes the bouncer of the eponymous “Road House” – which is soon targeted by bad guys.

Patrick Swayze was 37 years old when he guarded the Road House. The popular actor died exactly 20 years later. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2008 and succumbed to his serious illness on September 14, 2009.
